The Shop

Hard-Décor began with a detour. Founder Daniel Bailey studied architecture at Cornell, moved to New York in the late ’90s — and discovered the desk at an architecture firm wasn’t the job. The metal shop was.

Working in a Williamsburg metal shop, Bailey found his natural home: hands on steel, brass, and copper, turning other people’s drawings into physical things. In 2001 he opened Hard-Décor in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Twenty-five years on, the shop consults with architects, artists, builders, and home and business owners — designing and fabricating restaurant interiors, retail build-outs, residences, furniture, and lighting. New York–based, with work installed nationally and internationally.
